Orchid (Coelogyne corymbosa) with fruits growing on Rhododendron branch. It is an epiphytic (sometimes lithophyte) orchid growing from 1500 to 3500m asl. It is mostly found in Eastern Himalayas. The Himalayas are truly blessed with rich biodiversity. |

Photographed at Nahi, Punakha (Bhutan) on May, 2012, while on expedition by orchid enthusiasts from Nahi to Dochula trail. It was an exhausting 11 hours walk for us. The trail is good and well maintained for the tourist and adventurers. We spotted many Rhododendron flowers in full bloom and of course the orchids flowers were growing on the branches of the Rhododendron tree; the orchids added additional value to the beauty of Rhododendron dominant forest. The expedition fulfilled the dream of one of our team mates; he dreamed of walking under the huge Rhododendron trees in full bloom in the Himalayas. I cannot forget that moment, when I saw the tears of bliss in him. |
Beautiful photographs! That must have been an incredible expedition. My father used to collect orchids when we lived in India. We visited Bhutan with him when was ten years old, way back in 1964, and we visited Thimphu
ReplyDeleteThank you. The expedition was indeed a good one. It is nice to hear that you and your father had visited Thimphu. Now Thimphu has changed a lot, hope if you visit, you will find lots of changes now.
